Hi, all

Thanks for the replies.

I do appreciate what has been said and i would love to agree with you all, but i can't.

I originally posted about the equipment used by the Special Operations Exec, the thing about C Lee was purely an aside, something that i remembered at that moment.

The very first reply, carrying obviously Nazi imagery was rude to a British war veteran and had nothing to do with the actual thread.

Equally what is said in private between friends that know each other is one thing, what is said on a public forum is another.

again,i am sure it was not what was meant , but how it looked, especially to people with an agenda (reporters, anti-airsoft people etc)

Anyhow, i am getting the distinct impression my thoughts are in the minoirity so hope i havn't upset to many of you!

hope this goes back to a thread about the SOE, thats what my initial post was about, not C Lee.

Cheers, and best of luck.

SOE.

Yeah he was issued with poison tipped fangs

The very first reply, carrying obviously Nazi imagery was rude to a British war veteran and had nothing to do with the actual thread.

No mate, he was referring to the fact that he has played dracula on countless occasions with hammer-horror. Nothing nazi about it at all. Think you might have got your wires crossed

Hey.

The joke about fangs was placed right above a banner with pictures of lines of Nazi stormtroopers and SS symbols.

Thats the context for me.

Sorry if i am expressing myself badly.

Again, hope we can return to the issue of equipment.

SOE.

Um, the banner(s) are in people's signatures, JD7's are related to two groups he's a part of, nothing to do with the post at all, They're in all his replies (or at least the first replies in each thread), and are placed automatically, in the same ones that my Brit ones are below mine.

Hope that helps.

No, no editing Dave. SOE has got this completely wrong and I'm getting troubled by his posting (and has been under discussion by moderators all day).

Nazi imagery - what the hell are you talking about SOE? I am expecting an unconditional apology over that remark. And I am taking rather a dim view of the 'As an ex serviceman myself (Marines)' sort of tack, as if you would have feelings than anyone less worthy would have.

If you don't understand what WW2 airsoft/reenacting is about then the least I'd expect is you take the trouble to find out. No one has said anything disrespectful about Mr Lee and his service to the country, although they may have been having a little fun at his subsequent professional career.

Now then SOE, get a grip please.

Coolio, accepted.

Anyone wishing to find out what it might be like to be an SOE (with your silenced weapon and all) dropped into the midst of the enemy might care to have a look at our Operation Jedburgh event in July next year. Don't expect an easy time!

On that point, why is it some people's do that and others' don't? I think that's what's caused the confusion in part.

WRT the subject of the thread:
I'd have thought SOE would favour 9mm weapons so captured ammo could be used if required.

As said - I have modded the forum to show signature only on your first post displayed on the page so as not to clutter up the page too much. After all, its the post content that really matters.

It depends.

When the Norwegian SOE raided the telemark heavy water facility they used .45acp thompsons and left one there on purpose so that the raid was seen to be the result of 'British Commandos' rather than Norwegian saboteurs to avoid reprisals.

If you'd like to see what it woudl be like to be part of an SOE team raiding occupied Europe you can try it out at PBIs 'Operation Freshman' game at UCAP on February 28!

We have roles for both uniformed SOE (very much a rarity and the telemark op is the only case i can think of of SOE operation overtly as 'soldiers' rather than 'saboteurs) and civilian saboteur parts.

Full details here:

viewforum.php?f=50

(while were putting ads into threads :) )

Other than that SOE trained to use foreign small arms extensively but were issued some unique weapons, an interesting one was the SOE 'tyre slasher' knife for damaging axis vehicles.

The Osprey 'soe warrior' title out recently is very good and worth a look (i was sent one a few weeks back and loved it).

9mm was also a popular caliber for Nazi zombies. If you'd like to experience the undead environment...oh, we've already done that one....

Whilst doing some research into local history around my area (Sussex) I've found out about the home guard Auxiliary Units.

Wiki link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_Guard_Auxiliary_Units

One of WW2's best kept secrets, apparently they had access to any of the most modern weapons available and plastic explosives, anything that they considered would be useful to them. By calling themselves "Auxiliary Units" they were dumming down their title and roles, happy for the common enemy to think that the home guard were a bunch of old men and young boys with SMLE's and a pitchfork, not highly trained operatives.
As for uniforms, they didnt wear any, English Partisans so to speak, their camoflage being to blend in with the local civilian population.
Strictly speaking not SOE but more of the fore runners, and all quite fascinating.

Interesting stuff Jimbo,

Personally I think that the English would have made awful partisan fighters. There's too much ingrained spirit of fair play and lots of the ugly stuff would simply be deemed "not cricket".

The Russians and Tito's bunch were great at it because part of their national trait is to be stubborn bastards.

Not met many farmers then mate?
Townies might have been a bit "Lah di dah gunner Graham" but country life was tough hard bloody work pre war. Ploughing fields in all weathers with shire horses and all the other pleasantries of country life. Killing your own stock to eat etc brings out a hard side to the human nature, not disimilar to soldiers, not only that they were (and to a certain extent, still are) armed to the teeth! Also there were a fair few Poachers and Gamekeepers, both busy on their sides of the law and both recruited by the Auxiliary Units.
You wouldnt want to be a German on British soil without your wits around you 24 / 7

Yes when the text is doctored as such and taken entirely out of contact its quite hilarious.... ;)

(note to Del: "Must try harder" which should give you ample ammunition for a subsequent misquote...)
